Update 01/05/2016

Today we get yet another small patch. It’s to make sure CAW is working again. This update has also stripped the download versions of the EPs/SPs of SecuRom. This means that you will need to update to 1.69, should you want to install the EPs through Origin.

If you want to stay at 1.67, you need the pre-Sept 2002 disc version and all expansions on disc.

If you update to 1.69, please update your game again and use the 1.69 version of CAW posted her: CAW

If you decided to stay at 1.67, you don’t need to do anything. Do NOT download this new CAW version or it could mess up your worlds.

Please also see more information in this thread: Update to Sims 3 + CAW.

EA/Maxis has updated the tool page and both versions are available to download. Make sure you download the right one.

The whole purpose of this patch is to make the game more compatible with Origin and to add a new feature: Expansion and Stuff Pack Manager. There are no changes to the game code itself.

This patch is offered through Origin and not the launcher so if you don’t have Origin, it won’t be offered to you. It’s also not for Mac and not for the Steam Version.

Crinrict's Sims 3 Help Blog. Seems to me the on purpose of this patch was to get rid of the you’re offline message in the launcher.

If you don’t want to update, make sure to turn off automatic updates in Origin. This patch is optional and it’s your choice if you want to install it or not. There are consequences for the download version which I have described in the other post linked above.

Please take the necessary precautions before patching anyways: What to do before patching.

There are no patch notes

All core mods need updating because of the version number change. Core mods will throw an Unofficial Game Modification error but the message can be bypassed.

ErrorTrap is in testing.

Mac

There are no other changes to the code hence all other mods will continue to function properly.

Not needed since it’s a patch through Origin.

There are no manual links for this patch. If you don’t want to update to 1.69 make sure you keep a copy of the 1.67 super patch for safe-keeping.

Manual

CAW currently has an issue and doesn’t work with this patch level. Because of the new Origin-tie-in it’s possible that EIG will stop working altogether like it does for the newer base game versions.

CAW has been update. See above. I do not know yet what the take on EIG is.

If you don’t want to update, make sure you download the current CAW for safe-keeping

More details on this patch and the consequences can be found in this post: Expansion and Stuff Pack Manager

If you’re playing on Mac, you need to use The Sims 3 super-patcher to update your game. PC players can use the super-patcher as well.
Mac PC

If you’re playing on PC, we recommend that you update your game directly through Origin.

Expand for instructions on checking your region, downloading the super-patcher, and extracting and running it on your Mac.

Check your region

The super-patcher you need for Mac OSX depends on the region of the version you’re installing.

If you already know which region version you have, skip to the next section.

If you have only installed The Sims 3 (with no expansions, worlds, or stuff packs), you can check your region version from the launcher:

  1. Run the launcher.
  2. Check the version number in the bottom left corner of the launcher window.
  3. Find the last digit in the version number – that’s your region code.
    • The number should be 1, 2, 3, 5 or 7.
    • If it isn’t, follow the steps below to find the region code.

If you’ve installed more than the base game, or have a version number that doesn’t end with 1, 2, 3, 5 or 7, you’ll need to manually check your region in the game files:

  1. Open Finder, go to Applications and select The Sims 3 folder.
  2. Right-click on the game icon and select Show Package Contents.
  3. Right-click the file named info.plist to highlight it.
  4. Press the spacebar to open the file in Quick View Mode.
  5. Check the version number listed under ClientBuild.
  6. Find the last number in the version – that’s your region code.
  7. Press the spacebar to exit Quick View mode.
  8. Close your Finder windows.

Download the super-patcher for your region

Click on the link that matches your region number to download the super-patcher:

The super-patcher file is large and might take a while to download. How long it takes depends on your internet connection speed.

Extract and run the super-patcher

When the download has finished:

  1. Double-click the downloaded file.
  2. Wait for the patch to extract (this can take a little time).
  3. When the patch is ready to install you’ll see a green plumbob icon.
  4. Double-click the plumbob icon to run the super-patcher.
    • If asked, enter your administrator password.
  5. In the Finder window, go to Applications and select The Sims 3 folder.
  6. Click on The Sims 3 game icon once to highlight it.
  7. Click on the Update button in the bottom-right of the Finder Window.
  8. Wait for the update to finish installing.
  9. Launch the game.

If you installed the super-patcher and then install expansion packs or stuff packs, you may see an error message saying the game version is different than expected. Ignore the message and continue installing your packs.

Expand for instructions installing the super-patcher on your PC.

If you play on PC, you can update your game directly through Origin.

We recommend that you download and install your game through Origin, so that you get all the latest updates and have access to the most recent launcher and expansion manager.

If you do want to install from your game disks, you need to use the super-patcher.

  1. Download the super-patcher for PC here. The PC super-patcher works for all regions of the game.
  2. To extract and install it, double-click on the downloaded file.
  3. When you’re done patching, check that you have the correct version.
  4. Run the launcher and hover your mouse pointer over the icon in the bottom-left of the launcher window. If you see version number 1.67.62, you’re all set.
  5. If you see an installed version cannot be detected error, try again and run the super-patcher as an administrator.
