Joe And Mac Snes Manual

Sluggish menus, unreliable
Every time the collection is started, there is a very slow fade in and out of various logos. Not terrible once but every time is a bit too much, and makes switching games more annoying than it should be. Once in the menu to switch games it takes seconds to scroll between games and sometimes inputs are dropped. Minus 1 star for this.
Worse, on my stock near-launch SNES the original Joe & Mac usually crashes to a black screen seconds after startup. I've found that if I first start Congo's Caper, let it run to its menu, use the console reset button to go back to the collection menu, and finally select Joe & Mac, it works. Unsure if this elaborate procedure actually helps or is just coincidence. Minus two stars.
As to the games themselves.. Joe & Mac is a simple arcade platformer. I like it but I have some nostalgia for it. Good graphics and sound for the time.
Congo's Caper is somewhat less simple than Joe & Mac gameplay wise but with worse graphics and sound. I'd never call it a 'smash hit' like the collection's box art does but it has its charm.
Joe & Mac 2 has some light adventure elements to it which makes it more elaborate than the other two pure platformers. It's probably the best game in the collection (and definitely the most expensive to purchase individually) but is the one I've played the least.
